About this Outport
The North East of Scotland Outport was formed by Captain Royston Frederic Weller and Captain Angus MacKay in 1976, and the first annual dinner was held at the Westhill Inn in 1978. The Outport grew from strength to strength, coinciding with Aberdeen’s oil boom with many members working in the oil and gas industry. Even so, the Outport has a varied group of Liverymen, Freemen, Members and Apprentices spanning varied seagoing and shore-based disciplines.
The current Chairman is Captain Simon Jones, and the current Outport Honorary Secretary is Captain Ewan Rattray.

Simon joined the HCMM back in 2001 as an apprentice before becoming an associate in 2004.
Captain Ewan Rattray
Outport Honorary Secretary for North East of Scotland
Ewan joined the Company in 2016 as a Member and was affiliated with the NE of Scotland Outport, a year later after obtaining his Masters certificate Ewan became a Freeman of the Company.
Shortly after this he took up the post of Honorary Secretary and Chairman of the NE of Scotland Outport taking over from Captain Richard Curtis. Ewan was also clothed as a Liveryman in 2019. In 2020 Captain Simon Jones became the Chairman of the Outport and Ewan remains as Honorary Secretary.
Ewan has had a varied sea-going career ranging from container ships, the Royal Fleet Auxiliary to sub-sea construction. Ewan has sailed in Senior ranks afloat before stepping ashore to work as a Maritime Pilot, and more recently, Deputy Harbour Master for a major Port. Ewan also holds a Master's Degree in Shipping Operations and has written and published industry papers.

Social Events
The Outport meet once a quarter at the Royal Northern & University Club in Aberdeen where Members have a drink in the bar, followed by lunch and a guest speaker, or lunch and a general catch-up. This also provides an opportunity for the Member’s to discuss industry or Company business. The Royal Northern & University Club is situated on Albyn Place in Aberdeen. The Club is a private Members’ Club and as such the dress is Business / Formal. The Christmas Luncheon which falls in December is a traditional Christmas Dinner.
Once a year, the Master and Clerk attend the Outport. This co-insides with the Annual Members’ & Guests Lunch in March.
